Shard owners ramp up security after Greenpeace stunt

Six Greenpeace activists, all of them women, scaled the iconic Shard in London and unfurled a flag with “Save the Arctic” on it to protest against plans to drill in the Arctic by the oil company Shell.

The Prime Minister of Qatar, Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, inaugurated the 95-storey 310m building on 6 July 2012 in a ceremony attended by HRH Prince Andrew, Duke of York. Read more

The awards ceremony took place at the Mercure Holland House Hotel in Cardiff. Zaun opens gates to Thames Water

zaunPerimeter fencing expert Zaun has installed trackless bi-folding automatic speed gates at a Thames Water administration building.

The vehicle gates – which incorporate live-monitored safety edges, dual height safety photocells and manual-disengaging vertical infill bars – have replaced old rising arm barriers at Kemble Court, Thames Water’s Operations Management Centre in Reading.

Zaun also installed an adjacent pedestrian turnstile with a passage for bicycles and integrated the installation into existing fencing with 1.8m high HiSec fencing. Read more

Big cat-naps aplenty for zoo’s growing London pride – but fencing a must to protect visitors

zaunzooA £5.7m project at London Zoo to help save the Asiatic lion is largely built – and just requires London’s pride to get used to their new home before it is opened to visitors in Easter 2016.

Land of the Lions covers more than 2,500 sq m, or half the size of a football pitch, and will be five times the size of the previous enclosure.  London Zoo’s plan is to increase its number of lions from five to 12 and ramp up its conservation work in India to help boost the species’ dwindling numbers.
