CoCon goes live with Northamptonshire Fire & Rescue Service

Miquest has been working in conjunction with Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) to develop the CoCon product for inner cordon management. NFRS came to Miquest about 18 months ago with a request to assist them by developing and introducing a product for managing inner cordons. They were seeking to replace written records of entry into sectors, with a system that had less risk of error in accurate recording. Miquest proposed and developed a system which uses Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID) issued to personnel from the Fire and Rescue Service and other personnel that need to enter the inner cordon. As personnel pass through a sector entry control point their tag is registered and recorded in a central database. Commanders can then view details in real time of who is committed to the incident. Post incident, CoCon offers an easily usable audit function for analysis and investigation.

Don Prater, Managing Director of Miquest said, ‘at the outset it seemed like a really simple piece of software to write, however, given for what CoCon is responsible for we wanted to provide a solution that covered all eventualities on the Fire ground and always remain thoroughly reliable.’ Don Continued, ‘it has been a major advantage to have NFRS to turn to for advice about practical issues and we have always taken their advice in terms of what would work at real incident situations’.

NFRS has the CoCon solution installed on their incident command vehicle installed on Panasonic Toughbook ruggedised PC’s with Trovan RFID tags and scanners.

Versions of CoCon are available to operate in SECURITY environments where tracking of people movements in terms of entry and exit times into and out of secure/risk areas are important as well as the maintenance of event and incident logs.
