Stanley Security helps reduce anti social behaviour at residential blocks

STANLEY Security, one of the UK’s leading security providers, has installed new CCTV and intercom systems at a number of residential blocks for property management company Griffin Grays.  The result has been a reduction in anti-social behaviour and a more efficient way of working.

Griffin Grays is a family led estate and property management company based in Grays, Essex.  The latest addition to its range of services, Griffin Block Management is a managing agent service specifically for residential blocks in the Thurrock area.

To provide customers with a professional, effective and value for money service, Griffin Grays was keen to investigate latest cost-effective security options, including an alternate supplier to its intercom systems.  Pam Honeywell, Property Manager for Griffin Grays, explains: “The intercoms we had on most sites were installed with long term contracts that did not include any maintenance, so as well as paying for the rental of the intercom system we had to pay separately for repairs.  This system had been the same since the buildings were built, so the blocks were effectively paying a large fee for a very old system.”

STANLEY Security has installed new audio intercom systems, featuring modern vandal proof panels on entrances and new handsets in apartments.  It worked closely with Griffin Grays to gain access to apartments with minimal inconvenience or disruption to residents.

In addition to replacing the intercoms, STANLEY Security has also helped Griffin Grays tackle an issue all too common to blocks of flats: fly tipping.  “Most sites have bin stores that are close to the roads which encourages non-residents to fly tip large items,” states Pam.  STANLEY Security has installed small IP networked CCTV systems in these properties, consisting of four external cameras and some internal where required.  These are recorded to on site hard drives, although discussions are afoot to move to remote monitoring.  The CCTV has had an immediate positive impact: “To date the fly tipping has reduced as the cameras are highly visible.  In addition to this, when residents are dumping items, we are able to evidence this and charge them direct for removal, therefore reducing the overall costs of refuse removal.

“Some areas have been affected badly by antisocial behaviour; having the CCTV now gives us evidence to the perpetrators so that the police can deal with them appropriately.”

STANLEY Security has completed work at eight sites to date with a further three underway.  Each are under a ten-year contract which includes full service.

“Stanley were the most friendly and helpful contractors we had been given quotations from,” comments Pam.  “They were professional and had a great understanding of the needs of a block of flats.”

Stanley Security adopts digital asset mapping for improved service & maintenance

STANLEY Security, one of the UK’s leading security providers, has adopted an innovative asset mapping technology to provide customers with more efficient system maintenance & servicing than ever before.

‘Connected Assets’ is an advanced digital asset mapping technology that enables STANLEY Security to quickly and easily map out an entire security system and all its individual elements.  It allows for detailed additional information to be included, including images of equipment in situ.  Using Connected Assets, a visiting STANLEY engineer can now familiarise themselves with a customer’s security system before attending site and, whilst there, can quickly locate where specific items are that require servicing.  For customers, Connected Assets means an engineer can be on and off site quicker than ever before, making for a more efficient service with minimal disruption.

For STANLEY Security it not only makes for happier customers, but also means STANLEY can make more efficient use of its resources.  For example, with a complex site, rather than wait for an engineer who is familiar with that site and its system(s), any available engineer can now be sent fully loaded with the information they need to conduct that service visit.

For Stephen Hodgkinson-Soto, STANLEY Security Service Director GB, Connected Assets marks a leap forward: “Most security companies use an asset register spreadsheet to detail an installed security system, but this is basic and limited in terms of what information you can include.  In a digital world, this approach is out of date.  Moving to Connected Assets enables us to add considerably more valuable information and our field engineers are using it to good effect.  It’s working well for our customers, big and small, from a single newsagent to a large international airport.”

STANLEY Security’s maintenance & servicing options include service plans with differing levels of support to suit customers’ needs.  It has a network of expert technicians UK wide who can repair or maintain security equipment to ensure that it’s fully functional.

Whilst STANLEY Security is currently using Connected Assets to map static assets for its own service and maintenance contracts, Derek McLean, Head of Technology Solutions at STANLEY Security, sees an even wider use for it: “Using Connected Assets for mapping customer’s security systems is the first step.  We are looking at ways to further develop and use this innovative technology.  For example, we are already combining it with asset utilisation.  Using technology such as Low Energy Bluetooth, GPS and RTLS Location Tracking, Temperature Monitoring and GSM we are able to provide real time information on assets, however large or small, both inside and outside a building.”

New SecuriTEST® IP tester for easier installation and troubleshooting on any CCTV camera system

IDEAL Networks, global manufacturer of data cable and network testers, announces the launch of the new SecuriTEST IP, enabling technicians to install, test, troubleshoot and document IP/digital, HD coax and analogue CCTV camera systems with a single tester.

As IP/digital CCTV security systems become more common, technicians typically need to take a myriad of different testing equipment to each installation or maintenance job. SecuriTEST IP, which is now available to pre-order, has been developed to overcome this challenge. Its 7-inch, hi-res touchscreen and simple to use functions ensure just one tester is needed, even on complex installations. For instance, SecuriTEST IP can be connected quickly and easily to any IP or analogue camera via in-built RJ45, Wi-Fi and BNC ports.

In addition, the self-contained tester can supply power to cameras via PoE (Power over Ethernet) or standard 12V DC power using its internal Li-Ion battery. The long-life battery provides up to 10 hours continuous usage, but technicians can also pass PoE directly from the switch on an active network to a connected camera, reducing battery consumption. Regardless, the handheld SecuriTEST IP tester removes the need to use external power adapters and injectors. As well as saving space in a technician’s kit bag, this, coupled with one-hand operation and a customisable short cut menu, makes it easier to work on lifts and ladders.

With numerous types of CCTV camera, plus many different configurations and connection methods, installation and troubleshooting can be time intensive and complicated. However, to help save time and boost productivity, SecuriTEST IP offers automated camera connectivity via the QuickIP™ function. This allows even novice technicians to connect and configure IP cameras as quickly and easily as their analogue counterparts. Using the ubiquitous ONVIF protocol, SecuriTEST IP can connect to cameras from virtually every manufacturer without the need for proprietary software for each vendor.

The user-friendly SecuriTEST IP tester also offers a comprehensive range of camera set-up tools to ensure the camera is installed correctly, reducing installation and maintenance time. Common analogue and digital video protocols, including H.264, H.265 and MJPEG, are supported to ensure broad camera compatibility with one tester.

Using either the touch screen or keypad, camera information, network settings, aim and focus can all be easily configured, even for 4K camera systems. Additionally, PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) presets can be programmed into the camera during installation before the head-end equipment is in place, further reducing total installation time. To demonstrate PTZ coverage to clients, real-time video clips can be recorded and sent to clients. Plus, multiple still-images of each location preset can be stored and attached to reports giving technicians a better way to prove performance.

SecuriTEST IP includes a number of other advanced reporting tools to enable installers and technicians to document performance. Until now, time has often been wasted filling in excel documents to create reports. Not only is this time consuming, but as a spreadsheet rarely has enough detail, if an issue arises, unpaid callbacks are commonplace. SecuriTEST IP is the first camera tester to capture camera images and network configuration, and provide professionally formatted documentation in PDF. This enhanced proof of performance enables unpaid callbacks to be converted into billable service calls, improving profitability.

To help increase cash flow, the detailed, automated reports can be sent directly from the jobsite, allowing projects to be completed more quickly. Using the built-in Wi-Fi and web browser on the intuitive tester, reports can be sent straight from the tester using email or file-sharing services. Reports can be sent directly to the customer, or can be used to share information with colleagues based off-site to assist with troubleshooting. The tester can also be used with screen-mirroring, allowing others to view the screen on SecuriTEST IP in real-time using their own mobile devices.

As well as providing a user-friendly solution to common installation and troubleshooting needs, SecuriTEST IP also caters to many more advanced testing requirements. Cable tracing, length, wiremap and quality testing is possible for twisted pair cabling to help determine and pinpoint common cabling faults. For example, with cameras frequently installed in outdoor locations, water ingress into the cable from poorly sealed enclosures can be detected.

SecuriTEST IP is an addition to the IDEAL Networks range of data cable and network testers which help technicians and installers overcome challenges, increasing productivity and profitability. For more information, visit www.idealnetworks.net.

London Borough of Newham installs Videalert platform to enforce bus lanes and moving traffic contraventions

The London Borough of Newham has installed a CCTV-based system from Videalert to provide unattended enforcement of bus lanes and moving traffic contraventions with a special focus on box junctions. The contract was awarded to OpenView Security Solutions, a leading provider of CCTV systems to local authorities, under the ELS framework agreement, which is available to all London boroughs.

“An important factor in the decision-making process was to ensure that the chosen solution was open-standards based to avoid being locked in to a single supplier,” commented Carl Brown, Operations Manager Enforcement & Safety. “Videalert ticked all the boxes with a Digital Video Platform that uses standard off-the-shelf equipment to seamlessly integrate with our existing CCTV systems and fibre/wireless network infrastructure. As well as supporting existing analogue cameras, it allows a progressive migration to mixed analogue/digital camera environments.”

The latest ONVIF Profile S certified digital HD cameras and processing units have been deployed at twenty two locations across the borough where high levels of driver non-compliance has been commonplace. The London Borough of Newham also invested in a significant amount of additional data storage capacity to accommodate future system expansion at other sites that have been identified as requiring enforcement for a range of contraventions.

“Our platform has a proven capability to operate effectively in busy urban environments, delivering unattended enforcement in all traffic conditions regardless of vehicle speeds and proximity to each other,” added Tim Daniels, Sales & Marketing Director of Videalert. “Combining ANPR with video analytics ensures that only those vehicles actually committing an offence are captured which significantly speeds up the manual review process and increases productivity. This additional intelligence also enables enforcement to be carried out in areas such as bus lanes where there is adjacent parking so drivers are not penalised when entering or leaving their spaces.”

The Videalert system automates the construction of video evidence packs which are reviewed by trained council operators prior to sending confirmed offences to the back office processing system for the issuance of PCNs. It also enables the London Borough of Newham to potentially share captured data with other stakeholders for other applications such as crime prevention, community safety, traffic planning and journey time monitoring using the same camera assets.

ComNet Fiber Units Team Up With Vanderbilt’s SPC to Lay Down A Marker

Vanderbilt’s SPC was recently deployed to act as part of a security and communication solution between a toll booth and plaza located on the M1 between Dublin and Belfast.

At night time, the toll system is automated and therefore an intruder alarm system was needed for protection. The distance between the toll booth and plaza is 6.2 kilometers and the security systems – SPC and video cameras – had to be able to connect and operate over that distance sooperators could get an overview of activity at each site.

SPC replaced an existing Europlex legacy product that had the IFS fiber drivers connected and working on multimode fiber over the 6.2 kilometer distance. Due to this distance, the fiber driver was bespoke. Multimode is usually only specified for approximately two kilometers. However, when the 3GS legacy system was replaced for a new SPC panel, the communication over the fiber link stopped working.

The installation company, Precision Security, previously had to deploy a pair of fiber cables – two transmitters and two receivers – to transmit the signal back and forth successfully. However, in updating the site, they found that a single pair of ComNet fiber units, straight from the box, could successfully execute the task, despite only being specified for 4.5 kilometers.

The ComNet FDX60 multimode fiber units allowed the SPC X-Bus transmission to be converted from RS485 protocols to optical and back to RS485. This enabled the data between the SPC expanders to travel further distances.

The ComNet FDX60 (M,S)[-M] data transceivers provide point-to-point transmission of simplex or duplex EIA RS232/RS422/RS485 (2W/4W) data signals over one or two optical fibers. The transceivers are transparent to data encoding, allowing for broad-range compatibility. Models within this series are available for use with multimode or single mode optical fiber.

“ComNet came straight out of the box and was easy to use and to install. Its threshold is only around four kilometers, but it is working well beyond that. When I saw the name ComNet, I was pretty confident that it would work, to be honest. We previously worked with ComNet fiber managed switches, and we found that they always work as a sweet as a nut,” stated Victor Fields of Precision Security, who installed the fiber solution on site.

Openview Security Solutions Upgrades CCTV Control Room And Wireless Infrastructure For Stockport Homes

Stockport Homes, the organisation responsible for managing housing stock on behalf of Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council, has unveiled a new control room at Cornerstone, its recently opened head office. Designed and built by OpenView Security Solutions (OSS), the leading provider of CCTV Control Room and IT infrastructure solutions to the public sector, the new control room will enable the delivery of an efficient concierge and security service to over 2000 properties across Stockport.

In preparation for building the new control room, OSS was asked by Stockport Homes to recommend an upgrade its current fibre optic cable-based network infrastructure which was used to link CCTV cameras installed in 22 residential tower blocks.

According to Matthew Platt, Asset Manager at Stockport Homes: “We were already working with OpenView Security Solutions, which was providing an efficient maintenance support service for our existing security infrastructure and had high levels of confidence in the company’s ability to deliver a cost effective solution to meet our evolving infrastructure requirements.”

OSS recommended the installation of a high level carrier grade Wireless Ethernet network which not only provided higher capacity but also eliminated the high ongoing costs of rented fibre optic circuits. The company then scoped and designed a dual Ethernet ring topology that would provide a resilient, high speed 1GB wireless network based on Bridgewave equipment with the ability to upgrade to 3GB in the future if required. OSS upgraded the main equipment at the tower blocks with Layer 3 Cisco 3850 network switches that offered high levels of bandwidth and the network intelligence to provide the greatest control into the future.

Prior to moving the control room facilities to its new location, OSS also upgraded the CCTV Control Room platform with the latest Dallmeier NVR (network video recorder) and software platform to allow all existing equipment to be migrated to the new network.

“This installation demonstrates our ability to deliver and support large-scale LAN/WAN-based IT infrastructures that support the provision of the highest level of services to tenants across wide geographical areas,” added Andy Ward, Sales Director of OpenView Security Solutions.
