Mayflex Sees Growing Enthusiasm for IP

In the past 12 months, Mayflex, the electronic security, networking and infrastructure distributor, has witnessed a big increase in those interested in IP surveillance and the company believes the migration from analogue to IP is becoming very evident.

Pre-IFSEC, Mayflex sponsored a survey with info4security that looked at attitudes towards IP. The response revealed some surprising insight that demonstrated a very positive attitude towards IP surveillance.

Of all the people who responded, over half had installed an IP based system in the last 12 months. The most popular reason by far for people choosing an IP system was the resilience and flexibility of it which enabled the user to monitor, record and store video and data at any location on the network and/or internet.  The next two most popular reasons were the ability to capitalise on the features of high definition cameras and the cost savings allowed by exploiting the existing network.

A massive 92% said that they would be more likely to recommend and install an IP system in the future based on the past experience they’d had.

The survey revealed that the benefits of IP based solutions are becoming more important for more people, with just 11% of the people who hadn’t been involved in an IP based install stating that they weren’t convinced by the benefits and over two thirds saying that the only reason they haven’t installed IP yet is because they had not been involved in an applicable project.

These findings were also reflected at IFSEC.  Gary Harmer, Security Sales Director at Mayflex, says, “There was a real increased level of enthusiasm about IP at IFSEC this year.  As organisations look to achieve higher levels of return on their investments, they are realising that the additional features and benefits offered by an IP system are of real value to them as they are able to use the system for much more than just security. The price versus performance issue will never go away but it is far easier to justify any price differences that still exist between the two technology platforms. Our experience tells us that an IP based solution offers the end user scalability and adaptability for the future – important considerations for any business.”

The survey further revealed that about half of respondents had not been offered training or free system design to help them with their IP projects.  “This came as a surprise to us,” Gary says.  “Mayflex acts as a trusted IP advisor, offering free training and system design to its customers.  With a dedicated security team, our customers are supported throughout the entire sales process.”
