CONNEXION2’S IDENTICOM IMPROVE NURSE’S SAFETY!

St. Luke’s Hospice, a Sheffield based charity caring for adults with incurable diseases, has adopted the market leading lone worker security device, Identicom, to protect its community nurses when working alone.  St. Luke’s Hospice has chosen Connexion2’s fully managed SoloProtect solution, which incorporates Connexion2’s award-winning

Identicom, supported with a range of services as part of a fixed, inclusive price including SIM Card and Airtime, 24/7 link to Alarm Receiving Centre monitoring, device training and a dedicated Customer Support team. Connexion2 recently celebrated the shipping of its 100,000 Identicom device making it the most widely use dedicated lone worker device in the UK.

St. Luke’s has a team of community specialist palliative care nurses who support patients in their own homes throughout Sheffield.  The community team’s main aim is to support patients throughout their illness so that they have the best quality of life, relief from symptoms and flexible choices about where they are looked after.

Debbie Saunby, Lead Nurse at St. Luke’s Hospice said:   “Our community nurses travel alone all over the city caring for patients which can involve them facing the challenges of both remote rural areas and inner city neighbourhoods.  We were concerned about our nurses traveling alone and not being able to raise a response should a difficult situation arise.  Identicom was demonstrated to us and it was really a ‘no brainer’. Feedback from the team has been excellent. They have found it easy to use and they like the fact that it provides them with extra security”.

When community nurses are working alone they can activate the ‘Amber Alert’ function as part of their dynamic risk assessment.  This allows them to leave a quick 20-second voice message outlining whom they are with, where they are and what risks they are facing. This is only accessed by the Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) should there be a ‘Red Alert’ subsequently actioned on the device. Unlike an ‘Amber Alert’, a ‘Red Alert’ is a live audio link to the ARC. During such an alert, dedicated staff at the Alarm Receiving Centre can discreetly monitor what is happening through the audio evidence and make an assessment as to the level of support required – involving the police if necessary.  All audio captured through the device is recorded for future use as admissible evidence in court if required.

Craig Swallow, Managing Director of Connexion2, said: “We are delighted to be working with an organisation within the community local to Connexion2 and are keen to promote their good work. Members of the Connexion2 team will be taking part in the Bupa Great Yorkshire Run on 2 September 2012 to raise money for the deserving charity.”
